Ephesians 1: 3-14. In this section, the Apostle Paul tackles a number of major doctrines, and yet he does it in such a way that it is more 'doxology' than 'theology'. In other words, his end goal is that his readers might give praise to God. This week, pastor Don looks at some foundational doctrines of the NT. The main purpose of God's electing His people is that He might receive the glory. The over-arching theme is God's praise. He talks about us being 'in Christ' not the other way around. If the main purpose in His election is that we might praise God, the second major purpose is that we might live for His glory. Whatever way we look at this great doctrine, our conclusion has to be that God receives the glory, not man. If God has chosen us to be adopted into His family, then it is not our performance that determines our worth (as in this world), He turns this idea on its head.
