Jesh and Julie Thiessen, with their three children, served at the Good News Hospital in Mandritsara, Madagascar through Fellowship International. Jesh is a surgeon, and their primary mission was to offer quality, affordable and compassionate healthcare, while investing in a future generation of surgeons through discipleship and training. There has been exciting progress and development, including the approval of the Good News Hospital as a surgical training site for the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons. In January 2022, the doors of a new surgical building were opened, and the first two surgical residents were welcomed. Check out The Thiessens' blog to read about recent developments that we trust will grow this ministry even beyond the doors of the Good News Hospital.
The Thiessens are now based out of Northern Ontario, but continue to serve alongside their national colleagues to demonstrate Christ’s love and bring the hope of the gospel through medical care and hospital development. Surgery Helps is the name of the project and ministry that they are continuing in Africa. The new website reflects the heart and motivation of what they have been doing for years now, and how they will continue to see hope and healing brought to underserved regions of the world.
